Héros Images

To optimize a visual by creating a hero-image, it’s essential to understand the key elements that encourage a consumer to buy a product online, especially on mobile devices. A hero image is a visual specially designed for small screens, where essential information is highlighted in a clear and concise way. This information enables the consumer to make a purchasing decision at a glance. Here are the four essential questions, the “4Ws”, to consider when creating a hero image:

1. Who is the brand?

It’s crucial to make the brand immediately recognizable. The brand, sometimes accompanied by a sub-brand, must be easily identifiable by the consumer. For example, for the product “Yummy-Cola Classic”, “Yummy-Cola” is the brand, and “Classic” is the sub-brand. This distinction helps to reinforce product awareness and recognition.

2. What is the product?

The type of product must be clearly identifiable, whether it’s a shampoo, pet food, drink, etc. This can often be done visually, without the need for additional text. This can often be done visually, without the need for additional text. The aim is to make the product immediately understandable.

3. What is the variety?

This question concerns the specific characteristicsof the product, such as flavor, aroma or variety. For example, in the case of a beverage, it might be a question of whether it’s “still” or “sparkling”. These details help to differentiate between similar products under the same brand name.

4. What is the quantity?

It’s important to clearly indicate the quantity of product in the packaging, whether by volume (ml), weight (g), or number of units for a multipack. This lets consumers know exactly what they’re buying.

In some cases, it may be necessary to add additional information to help consumers make their choice. For example, for products aimed at a specific age group (“kitten 0-6 months”), or when several dimensions need to be specified (such as the length and number of
sheets for a roll of toilet paper). This is known as the “plus one” message, which includes this additional information to make the product easier to understand.

These principles aim to make the online shopping experience as fluid and intuitive as possible, by highlighting the information most relevant to the consumer.
